Questions first-time investors ask us
What is a mutual fund?
A mutual fund pools money from many investors and invests it in shares, bonds or both. A professional fund manager runs it under SEBI regulation. You own units, and each unit's value is the NAV.
SIP or lumpsum?
A SIP invests a fixed amount every month, so you buy more units when prices fall and fewer when they rise. A lumpsum puts money in at once; for equity funds it is often staggered through an STP.
How do I read a riskometer?
SEBI requires every scheme to show one of six risk levels, reviewed monthly:
Choose a level you are comfortable seeing fall in a bad year.
Does a top performer stay on top?
Not necessarily. Rankings change as markets move. Look at 3-year and 5-year returns rather than a single good year, check the fund's risk level and costs, and match the fund to how long you will stay invested.
Regular plan vs direct plan
A regular plan, bought through a distributor like Maitra Wealth, has a slightly higher expense ratio that includes the distributor's commission, paid by the AMC. In return you get service, paperwork help and reviews. A direct plan has no commission and no distributor service.
ELSS and tax saving
ELSS funds are equity funds with a 3-year lock-in. Investments up to ₹1.5 lakh a year qualify for deduction under Section 80C, but only under the old tax regime.
Is my money safe with Maitra Wealth?
Your payment goes directly from your bank to the fund house (AMC). Units are allotted in your name and held by the AMC's registrar (CAMS or KFintech). Maitra Wealth never holds your money. Market risk still applies to the investment itself.
What is the minimum amount?
Most funds allow SIPs from ₹500 a month; a few start at ₹100 or ₹1,000. Lumpsum minimums are usually ₹1,000 to ₹5,000.
Can I pause or stop my SIP?
Yes, at any time. Units you already hold stay invested. There is no penalty for stopping, though exit load can apply when you redeem.
How does Maitra Wealth earn?
As an AMFI-registered distributor, we receive commission from AMCs on regular plans. It is part of the scheme's expense ratio. We do not charge you a separate fee.
Can I move my existing funds to Maitra Wealth?
Yes. You can change the distributor on existing regular-plan folios to ARN-164992. Your units, holding period and tax position stay the same.
How do I raise a complaint?
Contact our team first. If it is not resolved, write to the AMC, and then to SEBI through SCORES at scores.sebi.gov.in.
